- The Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity in Quebec has tabled new legislation with respect to maintaining employee records. The amendments would require employers in Quebec to maintain a registration system that contains information about any individuals who come from a personnel agency. Currently, employers are only required to maintain a registry for employees, not individuals working for an employment agency.
- Changes to the Employment Protection for Foreign Nationals Act, 2009 will come into effect on November 20, 2015. The changes impose a number of new obligations on employers that employ foreign nationals, including being prohibited from taking possession of or retaining the property of a foreign national (e.g., a passport, work permit), providing foreign nationals with a copy of certain documents published by the Director of Employment Standards before the employment commences, and keeping records with respect to the employment of foreign nationals. Recruiters will also have new obligations under the Act.
