There have been various Saudisation initiatives taken over the last few months. Below is a summary:
(i) The Ministry of Labour and Social Development announced in April 2017 a decision to restrict the ability of employers to employ expatriate workers to work in shopping malls. When brought into force, employment in such areas will be reserved for KSA nationals. The decision is expected to come into force in September 2017.
(ii) The Ministry of Labour and Social Development announced in April 2017 its intention to restrict employment in the car rental sector to Saudi nationals. No further details or timeline for implementing the same has been issued.
(iii) The Ministry of Labour and Social Development announced in May 2017 that it will prohibit expatriate dentists from being recruited with the aim of enhancing recruitment of Saudi nationals in the private sector.
