A legislative proposal was put forth in the Romanian Senate (one of the two Chambers of the Romanian Parliament) to assist young people, ages 16 – 29 years old, with obtaining their first job. The initiators of the law have recommended benefits for employers that hire young people. Such employers will receive, from the Unemployment Insurance Budget, an amount equal to the gross national minimum salary for each young person employed and they will be exempt from paying social insurance contributions for these employees for a period of 18 months. However, employers who hire young people will be obliged to maintain the employment relations with the young people, for at least 36 months from the date when the individual employment contract was concluded, if they want to benefit from the advantages detailed above.
