On 5 August 2015, the Romanian Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Protection and Elderly released for public debate, the draft law on the organization, functioning and attributes of the National Agency for Labor and Social Security Inspection and for amending and supplementing certain acts.
Through Government Emergency Ordinance no. 86/2014, regarding measures to reorganize the central public administration and for amending and supplementing certain acts, it was established to set-up the National Agency for Labour Inspection and Social Security, as a specialized body of central public administration, with legal personality, subordinated to the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Protection and Elderly, by merging the Labour Inspectorate and the National Agency for Payments and Social Inspection.
Prior to Government Emergency Ordinance no. 86/2014, the control of labor relations, occupational health and safety, as well as market surveillance of products, was implemented by the Labour Inspectorate. Furthermore, the administration and management was allocated to a single system for payment of social assistance benefits and other social service programs supported by the state budget and was under the control of the National Agency for Payments and social Inspection.
