New legal provisions that prohibit smoking in closed areas at the workplace will be enforced starting March 16th. According to the new legal provisions, smoking in any closed area at the workplace is prohibited. The new legal provision defines a closed area as any construction having a ceiling, a roof or a cover and at least 2 walls. This legal provision is considered to be much stricter than the previous one that prohibited smoking in certain closed areas if they were used by at least 2 employees. Employers must enforce internal regulations stating the prohibition on smoking in closed areas at the workplace and the fact that violating this prohibition can be considered a serious disciplinary offence. They also have to properly mark the prohibition by using NO SMOKING signs.
