The new minimum age for child labor is 15 years old. The Labor Law has been amended in order to protect this sector of the population and to more effectively regulate the working conditions of minors. For the labor authorities, it is a complex task to oversee compliance of this legislation, due to the very large population of 15 year old children. Minors were protected by increasing the minimum age to work overtime and on Sundays and Feast Days from 16 to 18 years of age. Punishment for employers who violate the law is one to four years in prison and a fine of 250 to 500 times the minimum wage. It is foreseen that companies will replace their personnel for workers under 15 years of age with older workers.
