Based on the various announcements that have been made, we understand that there will be a committee formed by the Ministry of Interior to determine who will be able to apply for political asylum and which government department will receive and process requests.
The law will stipulate, amongst other things, that political asylum seekers must not have committed a war crime, do not carry more than one nationality and do not engage in political activity within Qatar once they have been given asylum.
There will be privileges to be enjoyed once in Qatar, e.g. a travel document that enables free travel and the benefit from full health care. These privileges will however be removed, and the individuals deported to a country which does not threaten the individual’s life, if he or she breach the provisions of this law and/or presumably any other Qatar law.
