The Norwegian Parliament passed an amendment to the Working Environment Act concerning the regulation of competition clauses in employment contracts. The amendment entails a set of conditions which require competition clauses to be agreed upon in writing, and that there must be a particular reason or need for the clause. In addition, the competition clause must be subject to time limits. Furthermore, the employee must be granted compensation for the time period the competition clause is valid. Consequently, employers should review their practice and templates regarding competition clauses.
