The Supreme Court fined a company due to breach of the Working Environment Act, on the basis of poor lighting in its factory. A worker fell over and suffered a concussion due to the poor lighting, and the Supreme Court found that the company acted negligent when it did not fix the lighting problem although the management was aware of the problem. The Supreme Court stated that it was not necessary to find out which employee was to blame in order to issue the fine. The company was fined NOK 100 000. Companies should be aware that infringement of provisions set to protect the life and health of workers are considered serious and can result in fines.
