The Chilean Congress is finalizing the discussion of a bill that will substantially amend the Labor Code particularly in the subject of collective bargaining and which is expected to be passed by the end of December 2015 or January 2016.
The focus of the Bill is to grant more power to unions, placing them as the sole representatives of the employees and conferring the power to cause a real industrial stoppage – both situations not seen in Chile before.
This new Law will certainly cause a change of the negotiation approach by the employers and will force companies to change its culture of relationship with unions, and to adapt its practices and compensations to face this new scenario.
