Eligible employees (i.e. those who are members of the EPS under an organization’s Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) scheme) seeking to obtain benefits under EPS must mandatorily submit their Aadhar number, with effect from October 1, 2017. However, employees who have obtained their EPF Universal Account Number (UAN) on or before July 1, 2017, have been given the option to submit their Aadhar number until September 30, 2017.
Please note that the UAN is an account number linked to the EPF contributions account for each eligible employee, and the UAN will remain constant for such employees regardless of their employer or place of location. The UAN is intended to reduce the administrative workload for the employer and the EPF Department.
However, please note that as per the notification dated August 4, 2017, released by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, it will not be mandatory for international workers, including those from Nepal and Bhutan, to obtain an Aadhar number for the purpose of availing benefits under EPS.
