The new French president has launched his major reform of Labour law which aims to renovate the French social model. The project concerns a number of areas of employment law and also fiscal matters. The rules of collective bargaining, of labour relations, of contract termination, labour litigation, and workplace health shall all be revised. Measures will also be taken for the safeguarding of employment relations, adaptation of the uses of certain work arrangements (fixed term contracts, working from home, Sunday work, etc.) as well as the change in the fiscal system towards a withholding of income tax at the source.
The loi d’habilitation project that would allow the government to legislate via ordinances, should be voted on by Parliament during its extraordinary session in July. The ordinances should be published in the Journal officiel before late September, according to the Prime Minister. The government’s goal is to implement all the changes set out in the ordinances on January 1, 2018.
