We are delighted to share with you a webcast of our recent client briefing entitled: “Corporate Governance & Sexual Harassment – Response Mechanisms for Employers” which was held in Sydney on Thursday 28 August 2014.
In this session, Michael Harmer, Chairman and Senior Team Leader provided an update on key developments in workplace relations in Australia. Sophie Redmond, Senior Associate and Team Leader provided a summary of the foundations of the law for sexual harassment (incorporating relevant NSW state and federal laws) as well as recent case law developments; and Margaret Diamond, General Counsel and Team Leader shared learnings from recent noteworthy cases in sexual harassment. Michael Harmer also provided an overview of corporate governance, risk management and compliance obligations for employers including prevention, optimal response mechanisms and corporate governance improvements.
Harmers Workplace Lawyers would like to acknowledge and thank the ABC Radio National Breakfast program and Business Editor, Sheryle Bagwell for permitting usage of recent radio interviews with Michael Harmer on “Sexual Harassment in Executive Culture“; and the ABC “7.30” program for its coverage, reporting and permission to use the Jemma Ewin story in this presentation (Vergara v Ewin [2014] FCACF 100).
Note for Victorian employers: as this webcast was filmed in NSW and covers the NSW state and federal “Foundations of the law – sexual harassment (NSW)” presentation by Sophie Redmond, we have incorporated the relevant slides for the Victorian presentation “Foundations of the law – Sexual Harassment (Victoria)” in the downloadable slides, which you may access via the “download slides” link above the webcast.
