Recently in its regular meeting, the PRC State Council proposed to promote the local implementation of paid annual leave rules. The promotion of these rules was already suggested in the Opinion on Building Harmonious Employment Relations, which was announced by the State Council earlier this year. As a result, the state council encourages local governments to publish new standards that provide discretion to employers to arrange working hours flexibly on Friday afternoon. In this way, employees may begin enjoying their paid annual leave beginning on Friday afternoons. We can expect more local rules on the implementation of paid annual leave to be brought forward following this promotion, which may affect management rules and the future of employment contracts.
