The owner of a roofing company recently received a jail sentence for breaching the Occupational Health and Safety Act in Ontario. In that case, a worker fell from the roof of a second-storey home. The owner of the company failed to provide fall protection and lifelines to the worker. After the worker fell, the owner directed another worker to climb onto the roof and install fall protection and lifelines, after-the-fact, in an attempt to deceive the Ministry of Labour. The owner was fined $5,000 and sentenced to three days in jail.
