On July 27, 2016, the Changing Workplaces Review: Special Advisors’ Interim Report was released. Two special advisors have been tasked with reviewing the Labour Relations Act, 1995 (the “LRA”) and the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (the “ESA”) in order to make recommendations to the Ontario Government with respect to amending those pieces of legislation. The Report includes numerous options that have been suggested with respect to changes to the LRA and the ESA. The deadline for submissions with respect to the options for Personal Emergency Leave is August 31, 2016. The deadline for submissions with respect to the remainder of the options outlined in the Report is October 14, 2016. Employers operating in Ontario should review the suggestions and consider making submissions to the Special Advisors in advance of these deadlines.
