Romania: Teleworking is regulated for the first time in Romanian legislation

A new Law that defines and regulates teleworking was adopted early this March. For the first time working from a distance is recognized and regulated under Romanian Law. Employees that work from home or from any other place organized by the employer for working at a distance will establish an employment relationship and will enjoy all the benefits a regular employee has.

Romania: A collective conflict was stopped before the strike was declared

A Union Federation that was entitled to participate in collective bargaining at a Company level has declared the premises for a collective conflict after mandatory negotiations for an addendum to the existing Collective Agreement failed to result in consensus. The declaration of the collective conflict is a mandatory procedure before the strike. Within Companies that have an existing Collective Agreement a strike cannot be declared.

Romania: New fiscal regime for employers and employees

Starting January 1st 2018 a new fiscal regime for the wage system in Romania will be enforced. At this moment the burden of social contributions and income tax is divided between employers and employees. According to the new fiscal regime, the employee will bear the burden of all contributions to the pension system, health system and income tax. The employer will pay an additional contribution of 2.25% of all monthly wage funds.
